Scientists use DNA to ID rarest whale

         The rarest whale was spotted for the first time on December of 2010, the poor whales stranded themselves on a beach in New Zealand. A poor mother and her calf got stranded and died, the mother whale was 17 feet long and the calf was 11 feet long that is very long for a calf! This article is important because up until then there were only three partial skulls found and it was hard to collect information on this whale. This appeared in modern day news because it appeared in the magazine describing how DNA can help you figure things out.

         The state of Maine brakes a streak of 32 states that say that gay people cant get married.  Now gays in Maine can get married starting Jan 1st. This article is important because to me gays should have the same amount of rights as we do. Now they do in Maine which makes me happy because people say gays are weird and over all not normal people. An elephant named Koshik can imitate people that train him.He speaks in Korean and very fluently.people did test and had people who speak Korean to listen to the recordings of Koshik talking.The reported that they could understand the recording very well and that he mainly says 5 words witch are hello,sit down,lie down,no, and good.Elephants learn from other elephants and do hat they do but their was a female that had been living with Koshik since 2002,and never ever once  spoke a word.I think that this is important because It shows that elephants are and can be very intelligent.

Hurricane Sandy continues to ruin the lives of many

             It broke records and hearts. This past week, more than 8 million people lost power as a result of wind, flooding, and heavy snow. Waves reached to a range of 20 feet, affecting many along with it. At least 23 states were affected by Sandy's record breaking events. Sandy was so big that forecasters said that if it had been a country, it would have ranked 20th in the world. This massive storm killed 110 people in the United States. This is important because we can't have a storm this big come without warning. We need to see them earlier so that we don't get hit this hard again.

   In one of the zoo's in Korea there is an elephant that can produce 5 Korean words by tucking his trunk inside his mouth. Dome people say he might have started imitating  people because he was so lonely. I think this is important because it shows us that he s lonely and needs another elephant to be with him. Train hits truck

In Wellington,Utah a worker was having a lunch break and was going to take a video of the train for his son. On the video the train hits the truck. The two men in the truck were lucky because they did not get hurt. In the hit the truck took out a pole. The police hope the town will learn from this. They fixed the pole and have more warning signs.

16 lbs of weed found by k-9

In Park City,Utah a K-9 sniffed out 16 pounds of  marijuana. An unusual looking car with two men in it  was stopped because a taillight was out (you can find out who it was yourself by clicking on the link at the end of the blog) and then they had the dog drug check the car. The dog made a "hit" in the trunk and found the 16 pounds of illegal marijuana.

46K pound metal falls on I-15

In Draper, Utah  metal fell onto the freeway. The chain that held the metal on the truck broke somehow and the sheet metal rolled off the truck. Luck was on our side because it missed every car around it. Not one other car was involved in this accident. Traffic was stopped for about two hours. It took a crane to remove the metal off of the freeway.

Jurassic turtle graveyard found in China

  "This site has probably more than doubled the known number of individual turtles from the Jurassic," said University of Tübingen turtle expert Walter Joyce. "Some of the shells were stacked up on top of one another in the rock." (Museum für Naturkunde Berlin)

Scientists say that they have found a grave site filled with the fossils of turtles from the Jurassic time period. The scientists think that the turtles were living in a very dry time and gathered in a water hole. Then the water hole might have dried up and the turtles may have died. Then the rain might have come in a flash flood and covered the turtle bodies in mud, fossilizing them over time. I think that this article is important because we can learn more about the Jurassic time period from these turtles'. We can even maybe someday learn all of the animals that lived in the Jurassic time period. Just maybe we can learn how to time travel from thesse turtles. Maybe...

6 killed by suicide bomber

In Pakistan a Taliban suicide bomber killed himself and five others. More people were wounded  from being near the blast near a gas station. Three guards were killed alongside who were near the other five people.

18 killed on bus attack

In Pakistan 18 people were  killed, five were injured, including women and children. An unknown person opened fire on a bus. Eight gunmen fired at a van and the van caught fire near a gas pump. Four shops near the fire also went to flame.  As the flames spread, the gunmen ran from the scene unharmed as reported by a CNN newsman.

The Two Boys That Are Gone.

A mother was trying to run away from her house and went into her SUV but then the car stalled. When they were trying to escape from the car the two kids (Brandon and Connor) where snatched from her arms from the water. They found the bodies on Thursday(The third day of the search) with help of police divers and sniffer dogs. The police thought this was horrible. I think this is important because many peoples most precious things just got swept from there feet and are gone for ever.                    A mother of 2 children got caught in sandy. The mother fled from her house to the SUV and that was filling up to with water. She ran out of the car with two little kids in her hands and not after that Sandy meant up with the 3 and sweep the children right out of her hands. The children's bodies were fond soon after in the heart of New York. I think this is important because we should remember to help one and others who have lost things that can never ever replaced and just help them.       A male Asian elephant named Koshik has learned to talk. He has many trainers and when they asked many different languages what he was saying. He can say hello,sit down, no, lay down, and good. But he can only say them in Korean. Most of the words he says are words he has either picked up from the crowds or they are words his trainers use. I think this article is important because if an elephant can speak than a dog may be able to speak one of these days. Maybe someday we will be able to communicate with our pets.

A fossil discovery of a triceratops skull was found near buffalo. Scientist say that it may just may be the biggest one ever. A normal skull of a triceratops is about like an elephants size of skull but this one was twice that size.Scientist wont know much more until it is cleaned witch could take about 1 year and 1/2.

Old Guard Stays at Tomb of Unknowns in superstorm

STG, Jose A. Torres Jr sanded gaurd during a superstorm. Unfortunly, the guard was taken by the storm, but could have remained safe by guarding the tomb from a small room. I think this is important because the guard could have still been alive if the orders were given to guard from the small room. He stayed at his post because he was not given orders to leave his post for the safety of the small room.  Although he lost his life it is important to follow orders in the military. The east coast was hit by hurricane Sandy these past few days. New York was his the hardest, leaving a big mess to clean up. But it wasn't just New York. The massive storm reached well into the midwest. Leaving Chicago officals warning residents to stay well away fro the Michigan Lake shore. 16 people have been killed and many more injured and 7.4 million homes and buisnesses have been destroyed during this major event. I think that this is an important article because we need to be well aware of these things so that we can warn people  so that 16 lives can't be taken away as easily. Also, because we can't be mad at somthing that we could have seen coming but never did.

New poll shows Romney, Obama appear tied in Ohio

     
         Last week in Ohio the polls between Mitt Romney and President Barrack Obama appeared to be almost tied! The polls said that the two candidates were almost too close to call the difference between the two, but the difference was that they were tied at 49 votes among likely voters.
         I think that this article is important because it is really neat to know how close the candidates really are to winning the election of who will run our country. I also think that this is important because we want to vote for whoever we think is the right person to run our country and lower our economic debt.

                                    What are you going to do with your pet!

 Animal experts who have been in the rescue trenches during other hurricanes before urge people to follow them to protect your animals. The hurricane is headed toward the east coast. In 1999 over 3 million pets and farm animals died from a hurricane Floyd! If it is nessasary we will need to evacuate, if it is not safe for you it is not safe for your animals. Why I think this is important is because it tells us that there is a place you can take you animals to be safe! Do you want to have your pets die or your animals? Do you want your kids to ask you why you don't have any pets or animal or ask you what they even are. The only animal they would know would be wild animals.
